Allow me a brief moment of Linguistic geekery...

What American accent do you have?
Created by Xavier on Memegen.net

Neutral. Not Northern, Southern, or Western, just American. Your national American identity is more important to you than your local identity, because you don't really have a local identity to begin with.

Take this quiz now - it's easy!
We're going to start with "cot" and "caught." When you say those words do they sound the same or different?

In case you can't read that, it says:

Neutral. Not Northern, Southern, or Western, just American. Your national American identity is more important to you than your local identity, because you don't really have a local identity to begin with.

So I don't have a local identity, huh? Ouch. That's almost harsh. Also kind of odd, considering I've lived in one state (heck one COUNTY) for most of my life. But maybe this is because I have a "Hollywood accent," or something like that?

Or... maybe I took the quiz wrong? Hm...

Then again, I've always been told that I have a good ear for dialects. Maybe that's what accounts for it? I'm curious.

It says I have a Northern accent. In other words, and these are THEIR words: (b) A New Yorker or New Jerseyan who doesn't have the full accent

*Grunt* Do you know how cranky that makes me? Ha ha. I spent years trying to neutralize my accent! Dangit.

Hi Melissa! Happy to have the counter on here, it's a lovely one!

And Isabelle, I saw your post. haha I'm sorry, hun. I can say that you don't sound as "New York" as some. But it is a little bit noticeable. ;)
